
AG Lynch joins Coventry Middle School students to stop vandalism

Students Against Vandalism Everywhere (S.A.V.E.), started by 7th graders at
Flat Rock Middle School in Coventry Rhode Island, met with Attorney General
Patrick Lynch on June 6, 2006.
As part of their informational campaign, the group presented the Attorney
General with a power point presentation on the problems associated with
vandalism. Among the many highlights of their presentation were:
In 2005, vandalism cost United States citizens over $1 billion dollars.
It cost the town of Coventry alone more than $170,000
Vandalism is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year in jail and up to a
$1,000 fine.
Vandalizing a cemetery is usually a felony, and damaging a veteran's grave
is automatically a federal crime.
42% of all teen arrests are vandalism related.
