COVENTRY, R.I. -- Julie Lima Boyle, who has taught English at Coventry High
School for 12 years, was named Rhode Island Teacher of the Year Wednesday in a
surprise ceremony at the school.
Governor Carcieri and Education Commissioner Deborah A. Gist led a crowd of
dignitaries in honoring Lima in front of most of the school's 1,900 students.
A 1990 graduate of the high school and a Cranston resident, Boyle wrote in her
application for the award that she strives to share her love of the written and
spoken word with her students.
"I teach English as my mission, and I am still learning how to write truth," she
wrote.
